Reviews Overview

The fish here is remarkably fresh, ensuring every bite bursts with flavor. Diners rave about the crispy batter, perfectly cooked without that dreaded sogginess often found in takeaways. The thick-cut fries strike a nice textural balance between crunchy exterior and fluffy interior, making them a highlight on their own.

Community members love that the restaurant accommodates kids with a dedicated menu, ensuring even picky eaters leave satisfied. The option to enjoy beer and wine adds a sophisticated touch for adults looking to relax. Value is a common theme, especially with generous portion sizes that come without the hefty price tag associated with many London eateries. Plus, the complimentary sides, like pickles, elevate the dining experience, making it stand out against other chippies.

Most Disliked

While Masters Superfish enjoys a positive reputation, some visitors point out that during peak hours, the restaurant can get quite busy, which may lead to slower service. Patience might be required as the locals and tourists flood in, especially during lunch and dinner times.

A few patrons mention that seating can be a bit cramped during these busy periods, making it less than ideal for larger groups. Although the menu offers a good selection, a couple of diners expressed a desire for more diverse vegetarian options beyond what's currently available. Nonetheless, these are minor points in an otherwise delightful experience.

My family were in the trade for over 40 years, I effectively grew up in a Fish and Chip shop. I can say without hesitation that this is the best fish and chips that I have eaten since my father died and his business closed. The fish is fresh and cooked superbly, no half measures, no soggy chips or batter, just done right.

Surprisingly good food at affordable prices! We visited the UK for the very first time in July of this year and stayed for a few days at a nearby hotel. Thank you, Google, for recommending Masters Superfish! We wanted to try traditional English fish and chips, and this place was perfect for that. Not only do they offer a great selection of fish, but their fries are superb—thick-cut, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. My favorite! As others have mentioned, the menu has plenty of options, so even our two picky teenage eaters found something they liked. We enjoyed the place so much that we had dinner there every night. Highly recommended! Oh, and by the way—the infamous reputation of English food is outdated. We had breakfast and lunch at several places, and shockingly, no culinary trauma occurred. It was actually good!

I had a really nice dining experience here at Masters Superfish. I was warmly greeted by a lovely lady who said I could sit where I wanted. I arrived around 6pm, and it was still pretty quiet at that point. Whilst I was there the restaurant did start to get busier, with a mixture of both locals and tourists. Being a local myself I found it quite amusing watching visitors trying to decipher the menus, and wondering why their dishes were accompanied by pickled gherkins and onions! There’s quite an extensive menu - with lots of different fishes, as well as some vegetarian options too. The drinks menu is also pretty impressive. I thought the prices were quite reasonable - especially for a dining in restaurant. Most chip shops (chippy’s) in London charge around £15 for Cod & Chips to takeaway - and that’s without the complimentary side dishes that are served here with every meal. So I would say that what you are getting here is good value for money. My food was delicious - freshly cooked and hot. I didn’t notice any issues with smells of cooking oil coming from the kitchen, and the bathroom was clean. I would highly recommend visiting this lovely restaurant.

I had the haddock and it was fabulous. Chips were great too. Good service and nice beer and cider selection. Highly recommend! They were highlighted in Time Out magazine. Glad I chose them.

Conveniently located next to our Travelodge stay during our week trip. We read the raving reviews so we had to come try the fish and chips. It's not a fancy looking place but honestly, places that have this humble and authentic look will sometimes serve the BEST food. Masters Superfish did not disappoint. Lovely service, quick food, very tasty. I'd definitely return and recommend to whoever is looking for a proper fish and chippy.
